Amylmetacresol Bp is a defined organic compound recorded by PubChem as Phenylephrine. Its molecular formula is C9H13NO2, and its relative molecular mass is approximately 167.20 g/mol. Amylmetacresol (Bp) — same active substance as above, an antiseptic used in throat lozenges. Phenylephrine is a member of the class of the class of phenylethanolamines that is (1R)-2-(methylamino)-1-phenylethan-1-ol carrying an additional hydroxy substituent at position 3 on the phenyl ring.

It has a role as a sympathomimetic agent, an alpha-adrenergic agonist, a cardiotonic drug, a protective agent, a mydriatic agent, a vasoconstrictor agent and a nasal decongestant. Its biological or pharmacological significance is governed by the specific molecular form and the interactions described above; dose, exposure route, formulation, and metabolism determine whether an observed effect is therapeutic, toxicological, or simply physicochemical.
