What is Dithranol Bp?

Dithranol Bp is a defined organic compound recorded by PubChem as Anthralin. Its molecular formula is C14H10O3, and its relative molecular mass is approximately 226.23 g/mol. Dithranol (anthralin, British Pharmacopoeia grade), used topically for psoriasis. Anthralin is an anthracene compound derived by the substitution of -OH groups for hydrogen at C-1 and C-8, and with an oxo group at C-9. It has a role as an antipsoriatic. It is functionally related to an anthrone. It is a tautomer of an anthracene-1,8,9-triol.

Its biological or pharmacological significance is governed by the specific molecular form and the interactions described above; dose, exposure route, formulation, and metabolism determine whether an observed effect is therapeutic, toxicological, or simply physicochemical.
